Personal & Possessive Pronouns
Portuguese pronouns change form depending on their role in the sentence — subject, direct object, indirect object, or possession — and, unlike English, possessives agree with the noun they describe.
Subject pronouns
Who performs the action.
Eu moro no Brasil.
I live in Brazil.
Você mora aqui?
Do you live here?
Ele trabalha num banco.
He works at a bank.
Ela fala três idiomas.
She speaks three languages.
Nós vamos ao parque.
We are going to the park.
Vocês moram aqui?
Do you all live here?
Eles moram em São Paulo.
They live in São Paulo.
"Você" acts like he/she, grammatically
Even though "você" means "you", Portuguese verbs treat it exactly like a 3rd-person pronoun (ele/ela): "Você fala" uses the same verb form as "Ele fala" — not a special "you" form the way English conjugates differently.
